In the wake of Hurricane Irma, the entire Caribbean is rallying together to help rebuild this region we all call home.
At Sol, we are committed to the impacted territories and continue to play our part in the restoration process. Our Corporate Crisis Management Team has been mobilised and is working around the clock to ensure the safety and security of our local teammates by providing essential items, medical supplies and equipment.
Restoring our capability to provide fuels and other essential services to the countries affected remains a top priority. Our local colleagues are working closely on site with the respective Emergency Services and relevant agencies. Sol continues to provide critical materials and deploy teams from across the region to aid in the professional and technical support required to re-establish supply of these vital services for the communities.
We wish to commend the relief teams and volunteers working tirelessly to restore order and stability to the impacted territories. As we face the aftermath of Irma, we face it together and we will rebuild even stronger.

Sol Supports Leonard Connor Primary School

St. Maarten: September 1st, 2017 – SOL ANTILLES N.V. (Sol) continues its commitment to St. Maarten by supporting the youth and the education. Sol has, again partnered with the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise to present 300 fully equipped school bags to the students of the Leonard Conner Primary School on August 16, 2017, for the fifth consecutive year.
The school’s Principal, Ms. Samuel and the Deputy Principal, Ms. Matthew welcomed Sol and Rotary Sunrise to the Leonard Connor Primary School. David Antrobus, General Manager of Sol along with Marisca Peterson, Sol’s Retail Sales representative and other members of the Sol St. Maarten team attended the ceremony with enthusiasm. The President of the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise, Damali Bryson, the Assistant District Governor Marcellia Henry and a number of Rotary members, represented the Rotary Club at the presentation.

Sol’s support to the school is part of a “Back-to-School Project” hosted by the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise. Sol has been a proud sponsor to this initiative that support the students and teachers of its neighbor school at Cole Bay primary school
“We know that the new school year is an exciting time for students and Sol is more than happy to assist by providing the materials needed to maximize their academic development. Sol is proud to champion education and remains committed to fueling the development of St. Maarten’s youth. We wish the students the very best as they continue to strive for excellence,” said Antrobus.
Both Antrobus and Bryson emphasized that Education is Key and that the children should strive to excel to pursue their maximum potential. Ms. Bryson thanked Sol for its genuine commitment to this project that is of value to the community

One of the students, Leedje Bocio Amancio, gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the students to Sol and Rotary Sunrise and said she looked forward to next year. The children and their teachers were happy to be back at school and very appreciative of Sol’s and Rotary’s gesture.

Sol Continues to Shine During the Solar Eclipse

On Monday 21st August 2017, Sol (Barbados) Ltd partnered with The Harry Bayley Observatory to distribute ISO 12312-2 certified safety glasses for the viewing of the Partial Solar Eclipse. These complimentary glasses were distributed at several summer camps, at some of the Sol and Esso branded service stations and at The Observatory. Campers, customers and viewers at the observatory were very happy to receive these glasses as they were able to safely observe this astronomical phenomenon. The Sol team also engaged in interactive sessions with the children at the summer camps where safety was highlighted and excitement was at an all-time high as the viewing period approached.

A solar eclipse is an astrophysical event in which the moon passes between the Sun and Earth and blocks all or part of the Sun for up to about three hours. In Barbados, the eclipse viewers were able to observe this phenomenon between the hours of 2:30pm and 5:00pm.

Shell Lubricants Roadshow in Essequibo

Shell Lubricants took to the streets of Essequibo on July 28 2017 to host an unprecedented “Shell Lubricants Roadshow”. This event was geared at sensitizing the Essequibo populace of the range of Shell Lubricant products that are available to them. It specifically targeted Informal miners, Rice Farmers, PCMO operators and Outboard Engine operators.

The Shell Lubricants Roadshow was held at the G&P Jaigobin Supermarket in the heart of the central area in Essequibo, Anna Regina. The Roadshow saw in excess of 100 persons (Adults and Children) passing through to learn about some of the technology behind the various Shell Lubricant products available. Residents of Essequibo were also able to understand the principle of viscosity by demonstrations done on the Viscosity Demo tool. Presentations were also done demonstrating how to access Shell “Lubematch” to find the right Shell lubricants for their machinery. Both adults and children participated in a variety of exciting games and activities to win Shell branded prizes.

Sol committed to South Church Community

Sol is an integral member of the South Church Street and wider Cayman community, with which it has grown over the past fifty-seven (57) years. Sol sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused by the Jackson Point incident and the displacement of its immediate neighbours.
During the incident, some residents of the South Church Street area were unable to return to their homes due to evacuation orders issued by Police and Fire Services and had to seek alternative lodging. Sol strives to be a good neighbor and support the communities within which it operates. As part of its commitment to the community, Sol confirms that it will compensate residents, on an ex-gratia basis, for direct out of pocket expenses related to alternative accommodation incurred by residents who were not allowed to return to their homes on the evening of July 23rd. Sol is asking that affected residents submit their reimbursement claims to the company’s main office. The claim should include a copy of the invoice detailing the cost of the alternate accommodation for July 23. Residents are also asked to submit a utility bill or other proof of address showing that they reside in the affected area.
Sol reiterates its gratitude to the Emergency Response Teams and to the community and its neighbours for their patience and understanding and remains committed to the safety of its community and the Cayman Islands.
